Anna Jung is a ceramic artist based in Seoul, Korea. Inspired by the art of craft and the pliable nature of clay, Jung depicts metamorphoses of daily objects through her work.  After receiving her BFA at Alfred University,  Jung spent the following year as a resident artist and an apprentice at Weimar Porzellan in Germany. Artist Statement

Through metamorphosis, a true essence is often revealed.

And when the true essence is revealed, it may seem foreign and ambiguous compared to the original state or shape. Nevertheless, this gives me freedom and the room to play with.  And evidently, clay, because of its malleable nature, is the perfect material that can embody this notion.

My work roots in the admiration I have for beautifully crafted daily objects. It is a celebration of ordinary yet aesthetically fulfilling objects that have been around us for some time.

The work I create depict conversations I have with the object and is the container for playful questions and often rebellious thoughts. I play with the boundaries of functionality and experiment with the notion of curious forms that evidently reveals the object’s usage once one physically engages with it.

My vision is to continue savoring the beauty of mundane objects. I hope that my work can hint at a reflection of our ever-changing culture and ourselves. And that it will provide an experience that provokes one’s true nature.
